I will tell you what is on my mind. Prayer in the public schools. When I visited the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs they were dealing with this issue. I got a chance to talk with some of the cadets and what I found was surprising. They had begun allowing prayer before events and since they were always including Jesus in them the other cadets who did not practice Christianity had two choices. 1. Listen to a prayer that did not include them in it. 2. Leave the assembly and be noticed by all the other cadets, risking derision and hazing. So most stayed and felt disconnected from their classmates. Now a prayer that says in the name of the Lord or God could have included most of those cadet's, but even there at that level of education that was not the way it was done. Now if you have never felt separated from a group in your life then you will not have the compassion or understanding to know that it is not a good feeling. And isn't group prayer supposed to be about everyone having a good feeling in comradeship? So you tell me that in Florida's Public Schools we are going to have prayer that will make everyone's day better or are we back to dividing those that believe in a particular religion from the rest of our children. This country was founded by people searching for a land where their religious beliefs were to be respected, and I say let's not forget that and stop this nonsense. It is the equivalent of bullying!
